About Sensei

Sensei doesn't announce itself. It just shows up. A light-medium roasted single origin coffee from Chikmagalur, built from 100% arabica coffee beans honey sun-dried to draw out natural sweetness rather than impose it. Grape. Orange marmalade. A quiet hazelnut at the finish. Nothing fights for attention. These specialty coffee beans are made for mornings that move on their own time: filter-forward, fruit-expressive, smooth without needing to tell you about it. The kind of arabica coffee you brew twice because the first cup was that good.

Origin & Process

Grown at 1,170–1,600 metres in Chikmagalur, Karnataka. SLN795 arabica variety, selected for balance, not drama. After harvest, ripe cherries are pulped and dried with the mucilage layer intact. This honey sun-dried process holds natural fruit sugars against the bean as it dries, building sweetness and complexity from the outside in. It's why natural coffee beans from this region taste the way they do. Nothing was added. The single origin coffee character you taste in the cup grew there.

How to Brew

Sensei opens up on filter. That's where these specialty coffee beans do their best work: slow extraction lets the light roast breathe.

Pour Over
· Medium grind · 1:15 ratio (15g : 225ml) · slow circular pour · 2–3 min
AeroPress
· Medium-fine grind · 80–90°C · steep 30–45 sec · press slowly
French Press
· Coarse grind · steep 4 min · press gently · serve immediately

These make excellent french press coffee beans: the body and sweetness fully develop in the 4-minute steep. Grind the arabica coffee beans fresh just before brewing. At this roast level, it makes a difference.

Freshness & Packaging

Every bag is roasted after your order, not before. That's not a selling point, it's the only way this makes sense. Each batch is prepared as freshly roasted coffee beans, sealed immediately into a single-valve pouch that releases CO₂ while locking out oxygen. The zip-lock holds after opening too. When you purchase coffee beans online from a roastery, not a distributor - this is what it should mean: specialty roasted beans on demand, packed for transit, at peak on arrival. Not warehouse stock with a good story. Store cool and dark. Rest 7 days before first brew.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes these arabica coffee beans different from commercial coffee?

Most commercial arabica coffee is blended, bulk-roasted, and built for consistency, not character. Sensei is a single origin coffee from a specific estate in Chikmagalur, processed to highlight a specific flavour profile. These specialty coffee beans are traceable, small-batch roasted, and made to taste like somewhere. The difference shows up immediately.

What is the honey sun-dried process?

After the cherry is pulped, it dries with the fruit mucilage layer still on the bean. This honey sun-dried method holds natural fruit sugars against the arabica coffee bean during drying, building sweetness and complexity from the outside in. It sits between washed and full natural, which is why Sensei tastes fruity without tipping into heavy ferment. The process does the work so the roast doesn't have to.

How fresh are the beans when they arrive?

Roasted after your order, not before. We don't pre-stock freshly roasted coffee. Every batch of arabica coffee beans is prepared on demand, sealed immediately, and shipped. Beans arrive 2–5 days post-roast. Rest 7 days before first brew.

Which brewing methods work best?

Filter is where Sensei belongs. Pour Over, AeroPress, and French press coffee beans in particular let the light-medium roast express its origin character. These specialty coffee beans have enough body for espresso, but you'll taste less of what makes them interesting. Start with filter. Work backwards if you want.

Can I buy as ground coffee instead of whole beans?

Yes. When you purchase coffee beans online from us, choose your grind at checkout. We grind fresh to your brewing method. Whole bean arabica coffee stays fresher longer. If you have a grinder, use it. If not, we'll sort it.
